Do You Promote your Client's location, location, location?

Many of our larger clients are located in the Dallas, Fort Worth area of Texas. When we recruit nationally many candidates have never been there nor do they know anyone in that location. They rely on us many times to provide information. This is one of the You tube videos that we send along with the invitation for an onsite interview with one or our clients. Marketing material is out there and available. Don't make your candidate dig for it. Find it and include it at some time during the process… Continue

"THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS"

Over the past few months i've read hundreds of blogs and "How to's" concerning what to do in a business downturn. Staff motivation, hit the phones, do something different, get certified so you can add another meaningless bunch of letters to your name, get on twitter, brand yourself (that one always paints a great mental picture in my mind), social network on 30 different sites, pray, find another job and the list goes on.

My question is, when was the last time you sent a letter that said, "Than… Continue

IT'S ALL ABOUT TEAM WORK

As some of you know i do a little satire writing. Amongst a certain group of recruiter buddies i am known as the "Good humor lady" or the Texas Fruitcake Lady. As things have gotten dicey this year it has fallen to yours truly to provide a weekly laugh or two to break the tension. I sent this to the group today. One of them told me that if i didn't put it on the blog she would, so since it needed a little edit of four letter words i have been coerced into seeing if i can bring some humor to a la… Continue

BETTY BROWN - YOU SWEET BIMBO

Ms. Betty Brown ,a republican state representative in Texas , discussing the problems Asian voters in Texas were having at the polls due to Asian names being foreign to polling personnel (what else would they be in Texas) asked a young Asian gentleman if he thought perhaps the answer to the problem would be for Asian people to change their names to something more "simple" so they would be more readily managed. Help me Jesus!!!!

Ms. Brown apologized and seemed dumbfounded that anyone could be of… Continue

RECRUITERS DO "WEIRD" STUFF

I have a horse sculpture on my desk, a gift from a candidate after a long , long search and interview process that turned out positive. It became both a symbol of respect and success so each time i reach the stage with a placement where everything is done that can be done, the jury is out and the wait for the offer is on. I put the candidate's resume under the horse.

Other recruiters in my office have little things they do while waiting for the "gods of offers to smile". One keeps the resume wi… Continue

You are wonderful. And different. And I "get" horse people. I'm a dog person. We are a lot like horse people. They're just a bit smaller! The dogs! Not the people!

If I could, I'd have 100 dogs of all breeds. But since city zoning won't allow that, I just have my beautiful Alaskan Malamute Cody. He's 10 this June. Getting to be an "old" dog. I hate that their life spans are so short. Anyway........Happy Monday. Have a lovely day!

I've already shipped "Maria Matador", but do not fret, I will send a picture of me (first time request) autograhped to "Cuatro". I love the Diego Rivera story. But more so, I love your horse story. I have a very dear friend who started riding about 15 years ago, was a VP of Merchandising for Nordstrom (we started out in retail together in High School), who then chucked the big job, sold her house in the city and moved to the San Juan Islands (nice place close by us.......and $$$$$$ to live) and bought a horse farm and thus began the horse collecting journey of her life. She went into real estate (is still successful because she's been at it for awhile), to pay for her passion, horses. She often speaks about training with "horse whisperers", and the amazing things they can do with autisitic children. So to hear you speak of it is truly quite amazing. I respect what you do. Wow.......what an accomplishment and how it must be so fullfilling for you too.

You my dear are a very interesting and unique lady. I'm so very glad to know you on a deeper level, but like my Mother always told me, a beautiful lady who wears fur well is a GREAT lady. You certainly are that, and then some. I'm glad to share a profession with you too.

And I will paint a Sandra. Send my a full figure picture of yourself IN the fur. For some reason it has to be that. I've not done a "Fur Lady" before, but something tells me that now might be the time.

Love your weekend!

It's funny how life brings people together, isn't it? It's always a wonder to me how we end up with one another. Artists have this experience much more than others, I think! I might be wrong, but we "invade" others lives by the sheer fact that we "paint stuff" and it resonates within another person and on some "kind and gentle" level they connect with us. It's amazing and a blessing all at the same time. I know for certain that there have been "tough guys" and "tough women" who scare a lot of people in their lives, but when they view, and then purchase art, their true selves come out in full force and I only know them on that level, all the while suspecting from my years in business that they are hard to deal with, but the art connection brings out their softer side. And for that connection, the art connection I am grateful. I too can be "tough" at times, something I'm not always proud of, perhaps why I am so devoted to my art and being a dedicated artist it brings out the qualities that are truly me, but also allows me to be a business person with OPINIONS! Hah!

Thank you for sharing your story and now I know that Maria Matador has even a higher level of existance to support once she's given to your son for Christmas. You're a good Mom! That's for sure. And you are a character. Perhaps I shall paint a "Lady" and call her Sandra.........in fur. Why not? Right!

You're a lovely person with deep emotions and insights. The world is better because of people like you.

Thank you!

Thank you so much. She will ship out on Monday. I have a lovely friend who's an amazing, amazing artist that does primarily outdoor landscapes, but she's a genuis which means she can do anything. Google her under Karen Luke Fildes and see if you like her style. It's unusual, provocative, and beautiful. And if you do perhaps she's the artist to paint your horse. I'll make introductions if you'd like to chat with her after looking at her work. I own several of her pieces and each and every time I walk by one of them, I always stop and stare. After all these years. Her work is just fantastic, and like I said, unusual.

Thank you again for your purchase. After all these years I'm still always moved when someone chooses to have something I've created as part of their visual life. I hope you enjoy Maria Matador. She like all of the Ladies is special. But the Ladies unlike my other body of work tell me their "story" as I create them, so there's a bond with each and every one of them as they tell me how to create them. Does that make sense? It's the right side brain part of me that allows me to be the artist. I'm also very "left" brained when it comes to business. I'm odd I guess. But it's fun and fullfilling. You're fun too. I appreciate you on the blogs. I always get a lot out of what you say and how you say it.

Have a lovely weekend!

Peter

PS: what is your normal email address? I'd like to add you to my mailing list. I do greeting cards too, and I'm launching a website late this summer just for them. I work through a rep out of New York for retail distribution, but that reach goes only so far. If ever in Dallas, one of my very best retailers is a store called Nuvo. They sell a ton of my cards. Great customers!

Thanks for the thought, but I'm literally NOT a literal artist. The Ladies are about as close to literal as I get. I'm a devoted abstract color field artist and enjoy good success in that arena. The ladies came out on a whim 20 years ago and I continue to do them because I have a lot of collectors and for some reason they are whimsical, and I sell the hell out of them! But again, thanks for the thought.
