Have you ever tried reasoning with a twelve year old boy? It can be trying and delightful at the same time. Easier than wrestling with a shark, but almost as deadly as negotiating with CEO. The wrong move, the wrong word and the negotiations are done.

Yesterday my son turned twelve. I had "reasoned" with him that a new bike helmet was a good idea. After a discussion, he reluctantly agreed. Today when he arrived home from school, he promptly put on his new helmet and after a kiss and a wave he was out the door to ride bikes with his buds.

I gave him the helmet for a gift. And the helmet returned the favor by giving me my son's life. He was struck by a car. He has suffered minor injuries that include a small brain hemorrhage and some possible internal bleeding or fluid build up in his middle section. He is being held overnight for continual observation at UCI Medical Center. We were told by several physicians that had he not had his helmet on, the outcome would surely have been different.

I am heading back to the hospital this evening to spend the night with him and hopefully, check-out in the morning. Reasoning is good. Persistence and insistence are good.

Life is good.

this is my son being smooched by his sister after his birthday dinner. Love is good.
